Triple amputee from Goa becomes first to reach Mount Everest Base Camp

Tinkesh Kaushik Makes History as First Triple Amputee to Reach Everest Base Camp

In a remarkable display of courage and determination, Tinkesh Kaushik, a 30-year-old man from Goa, has become the world’s first triple amputee to reach the Mount Everest Base Camp. Despite losing both his limbs below his knees and a hand in a tragic accident at a young age, Kaushik refused to let his physical limitations define him.

Kaushik, who works as a fitness coach in Goa, completed the challenging Everest Base Camp journey on May 11, reaching an elevation of 17,598 feet above sea level. His journey was not without its difficulties, as he faced painful days and even suffered from acute mountain sickness along the way.

“I did not have any prior experience in mountaineering. I prepared for that before going to the base camp. I am a fitness coach by profession and thought it would be an easy trek for me,” Kaushik shared. “I found trekking to be challenging. On the second day, I said that I have to do it. It’s a doable trek.”

Kaushik’s mental strength and unwavering determination were key factors in his success. Despite the obstacles he faced, he never wavered in his commitment to reaching the base camp. After accomplishing the feat, Kaushik took to social media to express his gratitude and emotions.

“Today, the 11th of May 2024, I completed the challenge of trekking to Everest Base Camp. As the first Triple Amputee with 90 per cent Locomotor disability to have achieved this feat, it was a very emotional moment for me. I did it for myself and I did it for a cause,” Kaushik wrote on Instagram.

Kaushik’s incredible achievement has not only made him a source of inspiration but has also brought pride to the people of Goa. The Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG) chief Avelino D’Souza commended Kaushik for his historic accomplishment during a press conference.

Kaushik’s story is a powerful reminder that with determination, perseverance, and a strong will, one can overcome even the most daunting challenges. His journey serves as a beacon of hope for individuals facing adversity and proves that anything is possible with the right mindset and attitude.
