19-year-old Utshob Ahmed from Rajshahi has made history by becoming the first Bangladeshi to win the World Boxing Council Asia Silver Super Flyweight title. Despite his young age, Ahmed displayed the maturity and determination of a seasoned athlete, propelling him to this milestone achievement.
In an exclusive interview with Star Lifestyle, Ahmed shared his thoughts on his recent victory and his future ambitions in the sport. “The feeling is still quite surreal,” he said. “But I am truly happy to win the belt and feel that I have made my country proud.”
Hailing from Rajshahi, a city not known for its boxing facilities, Ahmed emphasized the importance of perseverance and support from family in pursuing one’s dreams. He advised young athletes in similar circumstances to seek out local opportunities, remain determined, and if possible, travel to larger cities for better training.
When asked about the strategies that helped him win the game, Ahmed credited his training under experienced coach Mr. Steve in Dhaka, as well as guidance from his seniors. He highlighted the focus on improving stamina, strategy, and technique in preparation for the demanding eight-round match.
Looking ahead, Ahmed set his sights on winning the WBC Asia Gold Super Flyweight Title, earning a world ranking, and eventually competing in the world championships. He encouraged aspiring boxers to embrace persistence and to start their journey as amateurs, gradually progressing to professional levels.
