Jake Gyllenhaal Shares Behind-the-Scenes Training for Role in ‘Road House’ at SXSW

From pre-dawn workouts to strict nutrition plans, Jake Gyllenhaal has revealed the extreme lengths he went to in order to prepare for his latest role in the upcoming film “Road House.” Attending the premiere at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, the 43-year-old actor shared with PEOPLE that it “took a village” to achieve the physique required for the remake of the 1989 hit.

Gyllenhaal expressed gratitude to his trainer, Jason Walsh, and chef, Paulette Tejeda, along with a dedicated nutritionist, for their crucial roles in his transformation. Training for an hour to an hour and a half every day before work, the actor emphasized the collaborative effort that went into his physical preparation.

The intense regimen paid off as glimpses of the film have revealed Gyllenhaal’s impressive physique. In “Road House,” he portrays a former UFC fighter turned bar bouncer in the Florida Keys, alongside co-stars such as Conor McGregor, Jessica Williams, and Post Malone.

Acknowledging the original star, Patrick Swayze, in a heartfelt Instagram post, Gyllenhaal paid tribute to the late actor’s influence and talent. The remake pays homage to Swayze’s legacy while presenting a fresh take on the beloved film.
