Denise Austin Shares Exercise to Target Menopausal Belly
Denise Austin, 67, Shares Core Exercise to Target “Menopausal Belly”
Fitness icon Denise Austin is known for helping women stay fit and healthy, especially during menopause. In a recent Instagram video, Austin demonstrated a core exercise specifically designed to target the “stubborn” menopausal belly, an area many women struggle with.
Austin, who has shared her top menopause tips in the past, explained that the standing move she demonstrated targets the entire core, including the abs, obliques, back, and shoulders. She emphasized the importance of consistency and staying active to feel better overall.
In the video, Austin detailed the exercise called a “wood chop,” where she stands with feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, bends her knee towards the ground, and reaches her hands towards her front foot before standing up and reaching her arms overhead on the opposite side. She encouraged her followers to tighten their abs, push down, and reach up, doing the move 30 times on each side.
While Austin performed the exercise without equipment, she suggested that adding a hand weight could intensify the strength training. Her followers praised the simple yet effective exercise, with one fan commenting, “Use it or lose it๐” and another acknowledging the challenges of dealing with menopausal belly fat.
According to experts, hormonal changes during menopause, particularly a decline in estrogen, can lead to an increase in belly fat. While spot reduction is not possible, a balanced approach involving cardio, healthy eating, and strength training can contribute to overall weight loss. Core exercises like the wood chop from Austin can help tone and strengthen the targeted area.
