Correction/Clarification Regarding Ryan Garcia’s Positive Drug Test Results and Testing Laboratory Information

Boxer Ryan Garcia’s B-samples from drug tests conducted before and after his April 20 fight against Devin Haney have come back positive for the banned substance ostarine. This revelation was made by attorney Pat English, who represents Haney. The testing was carried out by the Sports Medicine Research and Testing Laboratory, contracted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association and accredited by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Despite winning the fight by majority decision, Garcia’s legal team has attributed the positive test result to a contaminated supplement. They maintain that Garcia has always been committed to clean and fair competition and has never intentionally used any banned substances. In an effort to prove his innocence, Garcia voluntarily had his hair tested, and the results came back negative for ostarine.

Garcia has denied taking steroids and showed defiance on social media by stating that he is prepared to face the consequences, even if it means never making money from boxing again. Ostarine is a prohibited substance by the World Anti-Doping Agency and is not approved for human use in the U.S. or any other country.

The matter will now be brought before the New York State Athletic Commission due to the location of the fight. Attorney English mentioned that a suspension is the likely outcome, with the possibility of Garcia requesting a hearing. The commission has yet to respond to requests for comment on the situation.
